The Mohamed Briouel Foundation for Art and Heritage launches its 2026–2027 season with a major Melhoun concert on Saturday 7 November at Cinéma Mégarama in Fez. Maestro Mohamed Briouel's orchestra will perform alongside Nabyla Maan and Driss Zaârouri.
Background
The official programme highlights classical Melhoun qassidas, ghazal, descriptive poetry known as wasf, and storytelling. These traditions bring Moroccan sung poetry to life. Briouel is associated with the transmission of Fez's musical heritage, while Maan and Zaârouri bring distinctive voices to this meeting of performers.
What to know
The concert opens a season dedicated to Melhoun, Andalusian music, the oud and Morocco's wider musical heritage. Fez is an especially meaningful setting because of its long history of musical instruction and performance.
