About this event
The living art of storytelling
Marrakech’s Jemaa El Fna square is renowned for its circle of storytellers, or hlaiqiya. Their halqa tradition passes on popular narratives through speech, gesture, memory and improvisation. The square’s cultural expression is recognised by UNESCO as intangible heritage.
Three storytellers on stage
Mohamed Bariz, Abderrahim Al Azzalia and Zouhair Khaznaoui celebrate this oral art in the intimate Small Theatre of Rabat’s Royal Theatre, restoring the close relationship between narrator and audience.
