About this event
On Thursday 22 and Saturday 24 October 2026 at 7:30pm, Tangier Cinémathèque screens Pierre Salvadori's The Electric Venus, the opening film of the 2026 Cannes Film Festival, as part of the French Institute's Plan large cinema programme.
Set in Paris in 1928, the story follows successful painter Antoine Balestro, unable to work after losing his wife. A spiritualist session meant to contact her leads instead to an encounter with Suzanne, a fairground worker who has slipped into the medium's caravan in search of food. Their accidental connection grows into a bittersweet romantic comedy about grief, belief and rediscovery.
Starring Pio Marmaï, Anaïs Demoustier, Gilles Lellouche and Vimala Pons, the film runs 122 minutes and is recommended for ages 12 and over. There are only two screenings, on 22 and 24 October. Admission is 40 MAD, with ten free Pass Jeunes invitations available per screening by online reservation.
