About this event
The Institut français in Fès screens “Marinette” on Friday, December 4, 2026 at 7:00 pm in the multipurpose hall of the Jean de La Fontaine school, as part of the global 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence.
Directed by Virginie Verrier, “Marinette” is a 2022 French film running 1 hour and 36 minutes, blending biographical drama, comedy-drama and historical storytelling. It traces the life of Marinette Pichon, one of the major figures in French women’s football.
Raised by a mother dealing with a violent husband, Marinette discovers football early as a space of freedom and self-assertion. She builds a sporting career despite social and financial obstacles, eventually joining the French national team and later an American club at a time when professional women’s football still received little recognition.
The film therefore resonates directly with the 16 Days campaign through themes including domestic violence, emancipation, gender equality, women’s access to sport, determination and resistance to social expectations.
The cast includes Garance Marillier, Émilie Dequenne, Alban Lenoir, Sylvie Testud and Frédéric Testot. The screening is organised in partnership with the Jean de La Fontaine school.
