The Ciné Junior programme at the Yves Saint Laurent Museum Marrakech presents The Great Dictator, Charlie Chaplin’s 1940 political satire. Chaplin plays two sharply opposed figures: a persecuted Jewish barber and Adenoid Hynkel, an authoritarian ruler consumed by power, propaganda and conquest. The film uses physical comedy to expose the machinery of dictatorship and dehumanisation.
A landmark in film history, The Great Dictator combines slapstick, parody of political speech and a direct critique of totalitarianism. Its final sequence moves beyond comedy to defend human dignity, freedom and solidarity. Screening the film within a family programme creates an opportunity to discuss how cinema can respond to political violence through humour, language and imagination.
The screening takes place on Wednesday 5 August 2026 at 11:00 AM in the Pierre Bergé Auditorium. Running time is approximately 125 minutes. The film will be shown in a French-dubbed version. Admission is free and no booking is required, subject to available seating.
