Indian master Ustad Wasifuddin Dagar brings dhrupad, one of North India's oldest classical vocal traditions, to the Fez Festival. The concert illustrates the festival's dialogue between Moroccan Sufi heritage and contemplative musical cultures beyond the Mediterranean.
Artistic and cultural context
Dhrupad develops melodic modes with careful attention to breath, sustained tone, subtle ornament and the expressive potential of the voice. Presented within the theme of mystical poetry, the concert takes place in the Jnan Sbil botanical garden.
