A cultural media library built around access and participation

IKLYLE Cultural Centre Rabat is part of the national cultural network developed by the Mohammed VI Foundation for the Promotion of Social Works in Education and Training. The network was created to widen access to information, culture and artistic practice for Foundation members while also welcoming the wider public.

The Rabat centre is best understood as an active media library rather than a conventional events hall. Visitors may use it for reading and study, attend a workshop or screening, explore an exhibition, or join a literary, scientific or civic discussion. Its connection to the education community gives the institution a distinctive role, but its programme regularly reaches families, students, artists, researchers and general audiences.

Reading areas and resources for different audiences

Published descriptions of the IKLYLE network refer to multidisciplinary documentary collections and a range of dedicated spaces: a general readers’ area, children’s and youth sections, a Braille space for blind and partially sighted users, a multimedia area, a periodicals kiosk and a projection room.

This configuration supports several kinds of use within the same institution. Children can encounter books through guided reading and creative activities, families can share cultural experiences, and students or teachers can work in a setting close to Rabat’s Madinat Al Irfane university district. The centre’s value comes not only from the size of its programme but from the possibility of returning regularly to read, learn and participate.

Visual arts, music, theatre and creative workshops

IKLYLE Rabat provides workshops for discovering or developing practical artistic skills. Documented disciplines include painting, drawing, sculpture, ceramics, photography, graphic design, digital illustration and computer graphics, alongside music and theatre.

Visual-arts workshops launched in November 2022 led to the 2023 group exhibition Éclosion, which presented work by more than sixty adult and young participants. Painting, sculpture, ceramics and live musical contributions revealed the educational process developed over several months. In 2025, the Foundation’s Espace Expo hosted Carnets révélés, bringing together twenty-one Moroccan visual artists following a residency focused on the journey from sketchbook to completed work.

The centre therefore does more than host finished cultural products. It supports learning, gives amateur and emerging practices a public platform, and helps promote creative work produced by members of Morocco’s education and training community.

Books, ideas and public debate

Author meetings, book launches, lectures, conferences and debates form a regular part of the programme. IKLYLE Rabat has hosted discussions on religious thought, gender, education, governance, international affairs, migration, archaeology and African heritage. These encounters connect specialised research with a broader public setting and encourage dialogue across professional and generational boundaries.

The centre also participates in the IKLYLE Young Short Story Writers Competition. First launched in Tétouan in 2018 and later expanded across the network, the initiative promotes narrative writing, supports emerging Moroccan voices and publishes selected work in a collective volume.

Science, technology and accessible knowledge

In November 2025, IKLYLE Rabat organised the first IKLYLE Science Days, devoted to the environment, artificial intelligence, future technologies and astronomy. Interactive workshops, practical experiments, robotics demonstrations, university prototypes, a meteorite display and direct observation of the Moon introduced scientific ideas to children, young people and adults.

This programme broadens the centre’s understanding of culture. Literature and the arts coexist with scientific literacy, digital practices and environmental awareness. Knowledge is presented through experimentation and participation rather than through academic instruction alone.

Theatre, screenings and performance

The centre’s activities include screenings, theatre workshops and staged presentations. In May 2026, the first IKLYLE Theatre Festival showcased work developed by participants in the centre’s theatre workshop and promoted performance as a tool for education, training and intergenerational exchange.

The projection room is also used for public talks, seminars and hybrid events. Some activities are freely open to the public, while others may require registration, membership or advance booking. Visitors should therefore confirm the specific conditions attached to each programme.

IKLYLE within Rabat’s cultural landscape

IKLYLE offers a model that differs from a museum, gallery or major performance venue. Its strength lies in continuity: reading services, recurring workshops, family activities, educational support, intellectual encounters and public events reinforce one another throughout the year.

The centre is located on Avenue Allal Al Fassi in Madinat Al Irfane, close to the Cheikh Zaid University Hospital.
