Textile art, care and memory across four Slovenian towns
BIEN Textile Art Biennial 2027, taking place 29 May–14 August 2027 in Kranj, Tržič, Škofja Loka and Jesenice, invites artists, designers, researchers and artist collectives from anywhere in the world, including Morocco. Under the theme “Traces of Grace”, the biennial explores textiles as a language of care, knowledge transmission, community memory, human relationships and social responsibility.Exhibiting work and what is covered
Applicants may submit one, two or three works that are no more than three years old and mainly made with textiles or connected to textiles through material, method or artistic concept. The jury can select up to three works for exhibition. The biennial organises displays, communications, installation and eligible return shipping, with insurance generally limited to €999. Initial shipment, customs duties and related expenses are paid by the artist. Special parcel size and weight restrictions apply; applicants shipping from Morocco should calculate the full cost before entering.
Main residency and young-artist prize
The BIEN main award gives one selected artist or duo a residency in Kranj of up to four weeks in 2028 or 2029, with supported travel, housing, daily allowance and eligible production. The international ETA Award, for makers under 29, offers a two-week residency in Kranj for exceptional textile craft. These are competitive awards, not support packages guaranteed to everyone selected to exhibit.
Fee and exceptions
There is a €10 non-refundable application fee for regular entries. Students may apply free of charge through the separate Textile School of Thought option accessible from the application; people who live in or are affected by conflict zones can request a waiver via bien@layer.si. No blanket fee waiver applies solely because an applicant resides in Morocco.
