A site-responsive public artwork in a protected estuary
The Busan Metropolitan City Government invites international proposals for “We Pass, the Earth Endures”, an ecological and land-art commission at Eulsukdo Island, at the mouth of South Korea's Nakdong River. This migratory-bird wetland has experienced agriculture, land reclamation, urban development and restoration. The commission seeks an artwork that addresses ecological time, the coexistence of humans and other life, and the island's specific physical and environmental limits.
Separate production budget and artist fee
The selected team has access to KRW 380 million for the overall artwork budget, including fabrication, installation, logistics and stays, plus a separate KRW 20 million artist fee. The KRW 380 million is an implementation allocation, not a personal cash prize. One winning proposal is expected to be selected following a first-round shortlist of four and final presentations. Public opening is tentatively planned for May–June 2027.
Who may submit?
The call welcomes professional artists, landscape architects, architects, designers and interdisciplinary teams working within or outside Korea, including those based in Morocco. Team size is not restricted. A single proposal should respond to the site through installations, structures or process-based artistic activities, emphasising environmental responsibility, low ecological disturbance and feasible maintenance.
Application pack
The organiser publishes a 64-page Korean/English guidelines PDF plus official DOCX templates and drawings of the site. A proposal of approximately twenty landscape-format A4 pages, spatial plans, materials, environmental approach, delivery schedule, budget and the compulsory official forms should be prepared in English or Korean. Candidates must consult the site's zoning and ecological restrictions rather than presenting a generic outdoor artwork. Email the completed package to eulsukdo.ecoart@gmail.com.
Submission is not open before November
The call information is public now, but submissions are accepted only from 2 November 2026 at 00:00 KST to 22 November 2026 at 24:00 KST (UTC+9). Enquiries close 20 November at 17:00 KST. Selection and results are expected in December.
