Dance research without the pressure of producing a finished show
NRW KULTURsekretariat and the tanz nrw 27 festival present TANZRECHERCHE × SPRUNGBRETT, a production-independent research residency for dance, choreography and performance. The central residency takes place from 26 April to 10 May 2027 in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, followed by opportunities to engage with the tanz nrw festival from 12 to 23 May 2027. It focuses on artistic exploration and methods, rather than commissioning a stage production.Which application track is international?
CALL 1 is reserved for emerging dance artists professionally based in North Rhine-Westphalia. CALL 2 welcomes international choreographers and dance artists based abroad; this is the appropriate category for Morocco-based applicants. Applicants should describe a specific research idea, why the German context is productive for it, and the connections and approaches they plan to develop.Funding: read the specific call carefully
The wider Dance Research NRW programme advertises research grants of up to €6,000 and a potential documentation budget up to €1,000, depending on the scale and nature of the research. These are general programme reference ceilings, not a confirmed individual award amount for every participant in the 2027 TANZRECHERCHE × SPRUNGBRETT edition. Applicants should consult the edition-specific information and verify travel, accommodation, visa and subsistence support before finalising their plans.
Research expectations
Residents are encouraged to work with the local artistic context and relevant cultural or research partners. The programme offers introductions to artists, institutions and interdisciplinary researchers, supports exchange and cross-cultural dialogue, and may include a final presentation or sharing of findings. The key output is the progress of an artistic question or method, not necessarily a premiered work.
How to apply
Applications must be submitted through the Google Form linked from the official call page. Prepare the research theme, working methods, professional background, previous work and possible contacts in NRW, following the detailed portal prompts. Online information sessions are advertised for 20 and 27 October 2026. A specialist panel is expected to announce decisions in December 2026.
