About this event
Les Jarres Amoureuses — Maxime Gralet’s Ceramic Installation in Tangier
Thirty terracotta jars are presented in the former French Consulate's basin in Tangier. Created by French multidisciplinary artist, choreographer and composer Maxime Gralet, « Les Jarres Amoureuses » explores material memory, traditional skills and cultural transformation. Each vessel was created or reshaped during a residency crossing Tangier, Safi and Marrakech. Their changing forms move between fullness and emptiness, vulnerability and resilience, becoming traces of artistic and personal encounters.
Artistic context
The work draws on Safi pottery traditions and artisans working in Tameslohte, with some jars created collaboratively and others by Gralet. Three screens present videos and dance footage produced in Morocco, accompanied by original sound compositions. The basin becomes a setting for interaction among ceramics, movement, landscape and sound. A first presentation was held at Tour Catherine on 13 September 2026 during the Être Ici cultural event. Rather than preserving old craft practices unchanged, the artist seeks to reveal their potential for experimentation and new relationships.
Access and practical information
