More than six decades of Spanish cultural presence in Fez

The Instituto Cervantes in Fez continues the work of the Spanish Cultural Centre established in the city in 1963. It joined the Instituto Cervantes network in 1991 and moved to its present premises on Rue Abi Tayeb El Moutanabbi in 2005. This continuity makes it one of the longest-standing international cultural institutions in Fez.

The centre includes classrooms, a library, an exhibition room and multimedia facilities. Its mission combines Spanish-language teaching, knowledge of the cultures of Spain and the wider Spanish-speaking world, cooperation with Moroccan institutions and exchanges involving artists, researchers, teachers and students from the region.

Language learning, library resources and certification

The Cervantes offers Spanish courses at different levels, programmes for academic or professional needs and preparation for the official DELE diplomas. Session dates, fees and examination procedures change throughout the year and should be checked on the centre’s official website.

Its library supports language learning while opening onto literature, cinema, history, social sciences and relations between Morocco, Spain, Latin America and the Mediterranean. Meetings with writers, translators and scholars turn the library into a cultural space rather than solely a lending service.

A Hispanic programme connected to the city

Exhibitions, screenings, concerts, theatre, lectures, workshops and literary encounters form a programme frequently developed with local partners. The institute creates routes between Fez and Spanish-speaking artistic scenes while giving visibility to Moroccan creators working across translation, Mediterranean circulation and intercultural dialogue.
