Maison Pop, Fez

A private house periodically transformed into an art space

Maison Pop is an independent address in Batha, within the Fez medina. It is neither an institutional museum nor a commercial gallery with fixed opening hours. The house is activated for exhibitions, performances, conversations and collective projects, then returns to private use between programmes.

This flexibility allows art to be experienced at a domestic scale. Courtyard, walls, stairways and rooms become exhibition or performance spaces. Works are encountered within inhabited architecture rather than the neutral setting of a conventional contemporary gallery.

Collective exhibitions and artists connected to Fez

Documented programmes over several years show Maison Pop hosting artists who live or work in Fez alongside international guests. In 2024, the house opened for a group exhibition involving several creators based in the city. It also appears among the venues of the International Artists Gathering organised by FezArtLab, hosting exhibitions, musical performances and encounters.

Its place within a dispersed network across the medina is significant. Maison Pop contributes to a cultural map shaped by walking, neighbourhood relationships and the temporary discovery of spaces that are usually invisible to the public.

Published directions vary in precision, but sources consistently locate the house around Derb El Cohen, Akbat Sbaa, Batha. Follow the directions supplied by the event organiser, as the medina lanes and the absence of permanent signage can make the address difficult to find.

Maison Pop has no documented daily reception or permanent ticket office. Do not visit without a recent announcement, invitation or confirmation. This page describes a real cultural venue whose operation is intentionally intermittent.
