About this event
A romantic comedy about mourning and deception
Paris, 1928. Antoine Balestro is a celebrated young painter whose life and creativity have stalled following his wife's death. His art dealer Armand is anxious to persuade him to return to painting. One evening, Antoine turns to a fortune-teller in the hope of contacting his lost love. Unknown to him, the voice answering his questions belongs to Suzanne, a fairground worker who has entered the clairvoyant's caravan looking for food. Suzanne discovers that she can convincingly play the part, and Armand soon helps stage further supposed encounters with the dead.
A Cannes opening film with a distinguished cast
As Antoine regains artistic inspiration, Suzanne becomes entangled in her own deception and begins falling for him. Pierre Salvadori's romantic period comedy explores the tension between grief, hope, illusion and the vulnerability of new love through the playful conventions of farce. The cast includes Pio Marmaï, Anaïs Demoustier, Gilles Lellouche, Vimala Pons and Gustave Kervern. The 122-minute feature opened the 2026 Cannes Film Festival and is shown in Morocco as part of the Institut français network's « Plan large » cinema programme.
