About this event

Groupe Le Matin launches the first edition of its Literary Festival from October 30 to November 1, 2026 at Palais du Méchouar in Casablanca’s Habous district, under the theme “Putting Books Back at the Heart of the City.”

For three days, writers, publishers, booksellers, artists, readers and book-sector professionals come together for meetings, round tables, readings, performances, workshops and activities for audiences of different ages.

The festival opens on Friday, October 30 with the ceremony for the first Le Matin Literary Prize, dedicated to Moroccan novels in French and Arabic. Two winners receive 30,000 MAD each, one in each language category.

The programme includes discussions on books and urban life, the history of Habous bookshops, the relationship between fiction and social change, the challenges faced by first-time novelists and connections between cinema and literature. Workshops are offered in French, Arabic and English, alongside activities in staged reading, slam and manga.

A literary village brings together booksellers, publishers and other book-sector actors for signings, author encounters, readings, games, competitions and family activities. The opening programme also includes poetry readings, music and a tribute to Driss Chraïbi.

Saturday, October 31 focuses on major round tables, author meetings and workshops, while Sunday, November 1 continues the programme before the closing session.
