About this event

As part of the ‘Arte en la calle’ initiative, the Instituto Cervantes in Casablanca has turned the construction fence around its headquarters into a site for contemporary art visible from the street. Artists Zineb Achoubie and Lorenzo Sandoval developed ‘Afinidades de onda’ in dialogue with textile artist Teresa Lanceta and the research legacy of historian Bert Flint. The work connects visual languages across North Africa and southern Europe, from Amazigh carpets and pottery to Andalusian architecture, music and ornamentation. Drawing on the legacy of the Casablanca School, the installation invites visitors to reflect on the relation between craft, modern art and public space, and on the exchanges that have shaped both shores of the Mediterranean. The roughly 50-metre intervention reimagines a construction barrier through textiles, patterns, structures and historical references, transforming a temporary urban boundary into a place for cultural encounters. **Important dates:** the work was unveiled on **26 November 2025**, not 2026; the Instituto Cervantes lists it as continuing **until 31 December 2026**. This listing refers to an ongoing installation, not a newly announced opening. **Location:** 31 Rue d’Alger, Casablanca, on the exterior construction fence. Access is from public space, though visibility may depend on construction conditions. **Sources:** https://cultura.cervantes.es/casablanca/es/arte-en-la-calle%3A-afinidades-de-onda/183826 and https://mares30.com/el-cervantes-de-casablanca-lleva-el-arte-amazigh-y-andalusi-a-la-calle-con-la-instalacion-afinidades-de-onda/ . **Image:** July 2025 photograph of the Cervantes building, before the artwork was installed; not a picture of the work itself.
