About this event
About the event
After his father's death, a man returns to Trappes, the neighbourhood of his childhood, to join his sisters and clear out the family apartment. Their relationship had been damaged by misunderstandings and things left unsaid. He finds dated audio tapes recorded by his father and addressed to his own father in Morocco. Listening to these unexpected archives reveals a life between two countries that the son had never truly understood.
Cultural context
The tapes lead the listener through coal mines in northern France, factories in Aubervilliers and Besançon, and other places associated with Moroccan migration. Director Bousselham Daïf brings Rachid Benzine's novel to the stage with Théâtre Chamates. The adaptation examines family memory, the silences that persist between generations and the struggle to recognise the personal history behind a parent's apparent distance.
