About this event
L’Atelier 21 in Casablanca presents “Inhabiting the Interstice”, a new solo exhibition by Safaa Erruas, from September 29 to November 7, 2026.
The artist continues a long-term investigation into crossing, borders and spaces of passage. She focuses in particular on the idea of the strait: at once a geographical reality, a transit zone, a space of waiting and a metaphor for an inner condition.
Using materials central to her visual language — paper, cotton, pins, needles, fibreglass and metal thread — Erruas builds fragile lines, grids, ribbons and volumes in which emptiness and fullness, shadow and light, accumulation and erasure remain in tension.
Art critic Olivier Rachet describes these works as “cartographies of intimacy”: forms seem to connect separated territories while giving shape to invisible tensions between fragility, displacement, memory and repair.
Born in Tetouan in 1976 and a graduate of the National Institute of Fine Arts, Safaa Erruas has developed a minimalist practice at the intersection of drawing, sculpture and installation for more than two decades. Her work is known for the recurrent use of white, void and materials that can appear delicate yet potentially injurious.
The exhibition is open Monday to Saturday, 9:30 am–1 pm and 2:30–7 pm. Explore more Casablanca exhibitions on Culturama.
