About the event
Eight-year-old Violette loses her parents and must move in with her uncle Régis, a caretaker at the Palace of Versailles. She initially refuses to speak to him and frequently runs away, but the two lonely characters gradually develop trust. Directed by Nathaniel H’limi and Clémence Madeleine-Perdrillat, this French animated feature explores grief, new family bonds and the quiet everyday process of learning to care for one another.

Cultural context
The palace is more than an impressive historical setting: its back rooms become the place where a child and a lonely adult learn to understand each other. Nathaniel H’limi and Clémence Madeleine-Perdrillat tell the story from Violette's point of view, using expressive animation to approach grief and family care with sensitivity.
