Casablanca Museum of Photography and Visual Arts

## A new museum in Casablanca’s old medina The **Casablanca Museum of Photography and Visual Arts** is one of Morocco’s major cultural openings of 2026. Inaugurated on **23 June 2026**, it is managed by the National Foundation of Museums and focuses on photography and contemporary visual culture. ## Architecture by Tadao Ando The museum was designed by Japanese architect **Tadao Ando**, in what the FNM presents as his only completed work on the African continent. Existing walls and arcades were preserved and integrated into a contemporary extension marked by exposed concrete and restrained geometry. A large glazed façade opens the institution toward the surrounding streets of the old medina, reinforcing the relationship between the museum and public space. ## CASA, the inaugural exhibition The museum opened with **CASA**, an exhibition examining Casablanca through Moroccan and international photographic perspectives. The exhibition brings together several generations of artists and photographers, including Leila Alaoui, Daoud Aoulad-Syad, Lalla Essaydi, Fatima Mazmouz, Yassine Toumi and Yoriyas.
