About this event

A new national piano festival in Casablanca

From 7 to 9 May 2027, FOL Theatre in Casablanca hosts the first national edition of Les Vibrations – Contemporary & Film Music Piano Festival. The event brings together contemporary twentieth- and twenty-first-century piano works and film scores, offering emerging pianists a professional yet educational performance setting.

Contemporary sounds and music for the screen

Participants may choose their own programme, provided it falls within contemporary music or film music and is appropriate for their level. The indicative repertoire spans John Cage, Pierre Boulez, Olivier Messiaen, György Ligeti, Philip Glass, Steve Reich, Arvo Pärt, Max Richter, Ludovico Einaudi, Nils Frahm, Yann Tiersen, Ryuichi Sakamoto, Joe Hisaishi, Ennio Morricone, Hans Zimmer and Alexandre Desplat. These are repertoire references, not announced performing guests. The composer list is non-exhaustive.

Who can participate?

The festival is open to pupils and students of public and private conservatories, independent teachers' students and amateur pianists, up to 40 years old. Accepted formats include solo piano, piano four hands, small ensembles featuring piano, and piano-and-voice duos in which the piano plays the leading part.

Five age categories apply: A up to age 10 (3–5 min), B ages 11–15 (4–6 min), C ages 16–20 (6–8 min), D ages 21–30 (8–12 min), and E ages 31–40 (8–12 min). Ensemble performances are limited to 12 minutes.

Auditions, masterclasses, final concert and awards

The three-day festival combines public auditions, assessment by a four-person professional jury, educational masterclasses and artist encounters, artistic performances and a final concert for selected participants. The jury will consider technical skills, musicality, interpretation, expression, originality and programme suitability.

Awards include Gold, Silver, Merit and Participation Diplomas, plus special prizes for Musicality, Contemporary Innovation, Best Cinematic Interpretation and Best Ensemble.

Registration: 1 November 2026 to 4 April 2027

Entry fees are MAD 400 for solo performers and MAD 300 per group participant. Applications can be submitted via festivallesvibrations@gmail.com or at FOL Theatre, 16 Rue Moussa Ben Nouassir, Casablanca. A concert piano is provided, and on-stage rehearsals are not allowed.
