Essaouira Cultural Centre

A public venue for culture and community life

The Essaouira Cultural Centre is a multipurpose public venue used for performances, film screenings, training sessions, professional meetings and community activities. Its programme is regularly promoted by Essaouira’s Provincial Directorate of Culture, the territorial service of Morocco’s Ministry of Youth, Culture and Communication.

The centre complements the city’s heritage sites and independent cultural spaces by providing a venue for local initiatives, public programmes and artistic presentation.

A recurring stage for theatre

Theatre is one of the centre’s most visible activities. On 16 May 2026, it hosted the comedy Far–Tah for Morocco’s National Theatre Day. In November 2025, the award-winning play Muthanna opened a film gathering at the venue, with simultaneous Arabic-to-French translation.

In March 2025, the Provincial Directorate of Culture and local companies also organised performances and a training workshop for World Theatre Day. These programmes show the centre’s role in both presenting work and supporting local artistic practice.

A flexible civic and cultural space

The venue also hosts public forums, professional training and institutional meetings. Its use for discussions on public-service governance, capacity-building programmes and territorial coordination gives it a broader civic function alongside its artistic programme.
