About Musée National du Tissage et du Tapis Dar Si Saïd

Things to do in Marrakech →
## From historic residence to museum The National Museum of Weaving and Carpets, Dar Si Saïd, occupies a palatial house established in the second half of the nineteenth century by Si Saïd Ben Moussa. During the twentieth century it served administrative, educational and craft-related purposes. In 1930 it was assigned to public instruction, fine arts and antiquities services. From 1957, part of the complex housed a museum of traditional art while other spaces continued to support craft workshops and education. ## Morocco's textile traditions The collections cover urban and rural carpet-making as well as long-pile wool carpets, hanbel flatweaves, blankets and garments. Visitors encounter objects such as akhnif cloaks, handira textiles, caftans, riders' costumes and brocades. Textiles are presented not only as decorative objects but as sources for understanding weaving techniques, local materials, patterns, household traditions and cultural diversity between regions. ## Related arts and the building The museum's wider holdings include woodworking, jewellery, pottery, ceramics, weaponry and archaeological objects associated with the Tensift, Souss, High Atlas, Anti-Atlas, Bani and Tafilalet regions. The rooms' architectural decoration, patterned tilework and carved wood are part of the site's heritage. The displays connect everyday uses, ceremonial objects, craftsmanship and the history of regional exchange. ## Visitor information Address: Derb El Bahia, Riad Zitoun Jdid, Marrakesh.
