About this event

‘4 Lecturas 4 Continentes’ connects Instituto Cervantes libraries in Tetouan, Brussels, Chicago and Istanbul through a shared online reading club. Under the 2026 theme ‘Tiempos modernos’ (Modern Times), participants explore literary responses to life in an age of hyperconnectivity, competition, productivity demands and social change. The title alludes to Charlie Chaplin’s 1936 film and invites a comparison between the industrial modernity of the past and today’s pressures. The four reading selections are Juan Tallón’s ‘Mil cosas’ (March–April), Beatriz Serrano’s ‘El descontento’ (May–June), Ariana Harwicz’s ‘Perder el juicio’ (September–October) and Eduardo Rabasa’s ‘La suma de los ceros’ (November–December). Readers take part in moderated asynchronous conversations over a blog during the weeks leading up to a live video meeting with the featured writer, bringing participants from different continents into one literary exchange. **2026 programme period:** 21 March–12 December, according to the Tetouan listing. **Upcoming reading:** Eduardo Rabasa, November–December. Specific meeting dates and times are not provided on this overview page; check registration details and the next video-session date with the organisers. **Official source:** https://cultura.cervantes.es/tetuan/es/4-lecturas-4-continentes-2026/188065 . **Image:** original 2026 ‘Tiempos modernos’ poster published by Instituto Cervantes Istanbul.
