About the event
Moroccan writer and artist Omar Berrada presents « Le dernier roi de Séville », a historical novel devoted to Al-Mu'tamid, the poet-king of medieval Seville. The book revisits the brilliance of Arab-Andalusian civilisation alongside the political intrigue, ambitions and betrayals that contributed to the ruler's fall. Born in Fes in 1952, Berrada is also a painter and sculptor whose novels, some translated into Arabic and Spanish, explore history, memory and identity. The meeting considers what historical fiction can reveal about cultural heritage and the relationship between power and poetry.
