About this event

The Instituto Cervantes in Tetouan welcomes Moroccan Spanish-language writer and academic **Mohamed Bouissef Rekab** on Thursday 10 December 2026, as part of its ‘Tribune of Moroccan Hispanists’. Developed by the Cervantes network across Morocco, the series highlights scholars, translators and writers who contribute to the study and transmission of Spanish language and culture, while creating an audiovisual record of their careers. Born in Tetouan on 20 December 1948, Bouissef Rekab studied Hispanic philology at Mohammed V University in Rabat and later completed doctoral studies at the Autonomous University of Madrid. His academic career includes teaching at Abdelmalek Essaâdi University in Tetouan, the King Fahd School of Translation in Tangier and the UNED in Ceuta. His writing explores memory, belonging, identity and the complex shared past of Morocco and Spain. His novels include ‘El vidente’ (1994), ‘Desmesura’ (1995), ‘Los bien nacidos’ (1998), ‘El dédalo de Abdelkrim’ (2002), ‘La señora’ (2006), ‘Aixa, el cielo de Pandora’ (2007) and ‘Las inocentes oquedades de Tetuán’ (2010). ‘El dédalo de Abdelkrim’ revisits the figure of Abdelkrim El Khattabi and the Rif War through historical fiction. The conversation offers an opportunity to reflect on Moroccan literature written in Spanish and the ways fiction can convey memories of the Strait's two shores. **Visitor information:** Thursday 10 December 2026, 6:00–7:30 p.m., Instituto Cervantes, 3 Rue Mohamed Torres, Tetouan.
