About this event

As part of FILMINDIA, the Yves Saint Laurent Museum Marrakech presents Udaan (Flight), Vikramaditya Motwane’s 2010 debut feature. The film follows Rohan, a teenager expelled from boarding school who returns to an authoritarian father after years apart. Trapped between imposed discipline, domestic violence and his desire to write, he searches for a route towards independence in an industrial city where others appear to have planned his future. Udaan belongs to a generation of Indian films that moves beyond the familiar shorthand of Bollywood. Its coming-of-age story is built through family tension, silence, everyday gestures and the conflict between personal vocation and social expectation. The screening offers Marrakech audiences an entry point into independent Hindi cinema through a season connecting film heritage, parallel cinema and contemporary voices. The film will be shown in Hindi with English subtitles. Running time: 138 minutes. Admission is free, but advance booking with the Yves Saint Laurent Museum Marrakech is required. The screening starts promptly at 7:00 PM in the Pierre Bergé Auditorium, and late admission may not be possible.
