About this event
On 12 November 2026, the Institut français presents in Casablanca a Moroccan short-film double bill: Chikha by Ayoub Layoussifi and Zahoua Raji, and In Search of the Grey Bird with Green Stripes by Saïd Hamich Benlarbi.
Chikha (25 minutes) follows 17-year-old Fatine in 1994 Azemmour as she struggles between carrying on her mother’s aïta singing and dancing heritage and following the more conventional future imagined by her boyfriend. In Search of the Grey Bird with Green Stripes (45 minutes) follows Sellam through the Atlas Mountains in a poetic journey shaped by grief and the search for something elusive. The second film premiered at Cannes Directors’ Fortnight in 2026 and won the 2026 Jean Vigo short-film prize.
